Major manufacturers and factories often feature an in-use machine shop called a toolroom. This gives them an added resource – a place they can turn to machine one-off parts or rare replacements for damaged machinery, or simply to put the finishing touches on extra-precise parts. Many of these toolrooms include high-end metal lathes.
Our selection of toolroom lathes fit perfectly in any size tool room. Take a look below for more information about each of our lathes. Find one that is perfect for you.
Smaller than their counterparts on the production lines, toolroom lathes are generally not intended for use as heavy production lathes. These lathes need the extra level of accuracy required to produce prototypes or to finish off test runs; they often featured extra “bells and whistles” not found on heavy engine lathes on the factory floor. Often they feature threading, collet closers, and taper attachments; all features needed for specialist work rather than mass production runs.
Today, the toolroom lathes features smaller, top-of-the-line lathes made to the highest standards. The luxury edition of a typical engine lathe, and intended for use by specialists to handle all the difficult jobs requiring the highest precision possible.
Also known as a normal output lathe, this toolroom lathe is used for all lathe operations, such as spinning, boring, grinding, reaming, making screw threads, taper turning, knurling and radius shaping. They can be modified for special milling operations with the required fixture. These lathes are used for special tool and die development due to the high precision of the unit and come in either cnc or manual varieties.
Like most tool room lathes, Summit’s line of toolroom lathes is smaller than your typical engine lathe.
